The Ultimate Green Drink

Many healthy "green" beverages are commercially available (for example: "Mega Green" from R. W. Knutsen, "Green Angel" from Nantucket Nectars, and packets of powdered mix from "Kyo-Green"), and a few are pretty good, but none of them even come close to The Ultimate Green Drink.

Most "green drinks" are simply fruit juice with a powdered mix of wheat grass, spirulina, and possibly blue-green algae blended in. Our favorite recipe is a meal replacement chock full of vitamins and supplements. It is actually possible to live on nothing but this beverage for months without any adverse reaction (we know a guy who tried this).

First, you’ll need to obtain a quality blender — preferably a heavy-duty "bar blender" which can be easily disassembled for cleaning — although any blender will work.

Next, you’ll need to select a quality juice (preferably organic) to use as a base for the mixture. "Orange-Mango" from Nantucket Nectars, and "Georgia Peach" from After the Fall seem to work best, although fresh squeezed orange juice will serve just as well (we’ve even used iced coffee as a base, although we don’t recommend it).

Then, you’ll need to obtain the following ingredients (they can probably be special ordered at your local health-food store):

"Pro-Greens" powdered whole food supplement, from NutriCology (about $40 for 265 g)

"Rainbow Nectar" powdered drink mix, from Rainbow Light (about $15 for 15 oz)

"ProZone" powdered drink mix, from NutriBiotic (about $20 for 22.5 oz)

Organic high-lignan flaxseed oil, from Barlean’s (about $10 for a pint)

Rainbow Nectar and ProZone are each available in a variety of flavors — for this particular beverage, vanilla works best.

To make the drink, dump approximately 8 oz. of juice in the blender, then add about a tablespoon of flax oil and one scoop each (pre-measured scoops provided) of the Pro-Greens, Rainbow Nectar, and ProZone, before blending thoroughly. Some people like to add ice cubes, but we advise against it.

The resultant frothy beverage has approximately: 526 calories, 23 grams of protein, 19 grams of fat (Omega 3, 6, & 9), and more nutritional value than a handful of vitamin pills (it also doesn’t taste nasty like most protein shakes). True, the ingredients are costly (about $115 for a month’s supply — including juice), but it breaks down to approximately $3.83 per shake, which is about what you’d pay for a greasy processed burger or a sub stuffed with luncheon meats at a "fast food" franchise.

You truly "are what you eat," as the foods you swallow are broken down and absorbed into your metabolism, forming new cells. Would you rather be composed primarily of nutritious whole foods, or gobbets of irradiated scrap meat saturated with chemicals? Having The Ultimate Green Drink for breakfast each morning will soon result in a significant health benefits, including increased vigor and a stronger immune system. It is guaranteed that the $115 worth of ingredients will be the best investment you’ve ever made.
