Diversity
Righteous Warrior Temple is a multi-cultural organization whose membership includes persons from all walks of life. We have people in nearly 20 states and a half-dozen foreign countries (Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and France). Our members and associates are from a variety of races, religions, social classes, and political affiliations. Except as noted in the online RWT Handbook, we do not discriminate based upon such things. There is no "typical" RWT member true individuals are difficult to stereotype or classify.
Because our members, honoraries, correspondents, and associates hail from such varied backgrounds, the Temples policy of anonymity serves a purpose other than mere security. You see, many of our people probably wouldnt get along very well if it were mandated that they "meet & greet" one another at semi-annual meetings. Allowing and encouraging input from such diverse individuals results in a free flow of new ideas. Our editorial staff picks, revises, and posts those quotations, essays, and ideas which we feel will be of the most interest to our readership (martial artists, college students, political activists, concerned citizens, bored cubicle denizens, dangerous misfits, federal agents, and curious individuals who just happened to stumble across our site by accident or coincidence). Diversity helps to keep an open mind and prevent stagnation. No matter how smart you happen to think you are, you can never stop learning.
Most of us are from what is commonly referred to as the "middle" socio-economic class, and nearly half are college educated. About two-thirds have served in the Armed Forces in some capacity. A sampling of occupations currently held include: attorney, paramedic, school teacher, library clerk, social worker, consultant, computer programmer, nutritionist, chef, machinist, mechanic, cashier, taxi driver, glass blower, tattoo artist, policeman, marijuana cultivator, and gas station attendant. Such occupations do not always mix well.
Although nearly half of us are from a traditional "Judeo-Christian" background (primarily agnostic), we also have a number of pagans among us, including: Buddhists, Sikhs, Wiccans, Spiritualists, and a few theologies which are more difficult to classify. Although most of these folks are fairly mellow, some of them take their religion very seriously, and we all know that, next to politics, religion is a taboo topic for polite conversation.
About a third of us are reformed criminals (ex-offenders, former gang members, retired street racers, and old bikers). These folks would probably be uncomfortable around those of us known to be (or suspected of being) on the other side of the law (especially if they happened to be packing or had weed on them). As per our bylaws stated in the RWT Handbook, none of these individuals has ever been convicted of a heinous crime, none of them are current drug users, and all have pledged to better themselves by living in an ethical and responsible manner.
A few of us are disabled. Several of our members have prosthetic limbs (which, in a couple of cases, have been weaponized), a few walk with a cane (which might contain something nasty), a couple have only one eye, and one utilizes a wheelchair from Hell (when hes not riding his V-8 trike). All are fully capable of conducting themselves as true Warriors, worthy of our respect.
Of our active membership, just over a dozen of us have actually met more than one other patchholder. Most of our members know each other only through written and electronic correspondence, which we feel is a necessary and prudent security measure. Due to these facts, we realize and acknowledge that some of our current patchholders may have misrepresented themselves to us. This is to be expected, and was taken into consideration long ago. Hence, possession of one of our patches is no guarantee that an individual is someone to be trusted without reservation. Always use common sense when dealing with strangers no matter what they represent themselves to be.
We are many. We are amongst you. We are the Good Guys.
