Background
Why did we create this site? Because it did not exist. We searched the Internet looking for answers to our questions, and were unable to find them. Were sure that others have faced similarly disappointing results. This was a problem, and we decided to take steps to correct it.
In our opinion, the Internet is a major disappointment. Computers were supposed to make everyones lives so much easier by doing the bulk of our work for us, efficiently and without error. This prediction has not come to pass indeed, it now seems that the bulk of modern societys problems are largely computer related!
Instead of providing us with the utopia that scientists have been promising us for decades, the global computer network appears to be contributing to societys degeneration. In addition to bombarding us with unsolicited advertisements, the Internet seems to be used primarily for: indulging in frivolous entertainment (like videogames), sending obnoxious "e-mails," lying to anonymous strangers in "chat rooms," viewing pornography, and running up huge credit card bills through "the ease of shopping at home." The Internet also provides a means for marketing executives to secretly monitor our spending habits, as well as allowing bureaucrats (and other snoops) to invade our privacy with impunity.
The Internet leaves a lot to be desired as a "research tool," and many of its purported "educational" sites either are of poor quality, or are geared towards young children. For instance, lets say that you were interested in learning about self-defense. If you were to type "self-defense" into a search engine, you would come up with nearly a half-million "hits" (the last time I checked, there were over 479,000 websites for this category). Unfortunately, more than 90% of them would tell you absolutely nothing. Most of them would only try to sell you something (a self-defense book or video, a catalog of self-defense products, enrollment in martial arts classes, or a chance to attend a seminar). Of the very limited number of sites that actually do provide information, many consist primarily of martial arts history and terminology (which often proves to be rather boring). Only a few will actually tell you how to defend yourself, and of those, more than half will consist of only a few pages slapped together by some high school kid whose only "expertise" is derived from a few months of karate lessons!
We looked up the websites of many organizations whose work interested us, and were dismayed to find that the majority of them either proved to be uninformative, or subjected the reader to blatant (and often disturbing) propaganda. Similarly, when we looked up the websites of many individuals whom we respected and admired, we were shocked to see that many of them simply consisted of a page or two of self-serving drivel. This was disillusioning and most upsetting.
We could not find the information we wanted, and realized that there was a problem. It took us well over a year, but weve finally put together the site we wouldve liked to have accessed. This site is like nothing else youll find on the Internet, and we are still adding to it (we expect it to triple in size within another year). We have also provided links to the few sites that we can personally endorse as being worthwhile.
We believe that it is important to provide accurate, useful, and entertaining information on self-defense, emergency preparedness, crisis management, and related subject matter. We also believe that, amongst those expressing interest in these subjects (for whatever reason), it is important to cultivate a sense of self-respect and honor which seems to be sorely lacking in contemporary society.
It is not our intent that anyone should be harmed by the information weve provided, so certain potentially dangerous topics have not been posted for unrestricted access. Our intent is simply to inform, educate, and entertain those who would come to us for answers. While we make no presumptions of being able to answer all of your questions, we do believe that there is something here for everyone.
Enjoy!
